Sheriff: Horse injured in hit-and-run after car strikes Amish buggy in Marcy

A horse pulling an Amish buggy was injured after being hit by a car Tuesday on Route 12 in Marcy, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.

Sammy S. Hershberger, 47, of Poland was driving the buggy when it was hit by a black Ford sedan just after 2:30 p.m. The car then left the scene, deputies reported.

While Hershberger did not suffer any injuries, the horse suffered injuries to its leg and neck and was brought to its owner's residence for evaluation, deputies said.

New York State Police, the Deerfield Fire Department and Kunkel Ambulance also were at the scene.
