Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. After the state Supreme Court's order to delay next year's primary, Republican legislators are calling the timeframe "impossible." The court is also fast-tracking the case challenging the districts, and it's worth noting that with the 2011 district maps, it wasn't until 2016 that the court deemed the districts unconstitutional and ordered a redraw. (CBS17)

  2. Across the state, seven guns were found in schools this week, one of which came from Cary High School. Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker is now speaking with lawmakers to push for creation of stricter laws around prosecuting parents for gun crimes. (WRAL)

  3. Torchlight Academy, a charter school in Raleigh is now on probation after altered documents were found. The school now has 30 days to bring the school in compliance with federal rules or risk charter revocation. (INDY Week)

  4. 2021 has seen an exciting boom in companies looking to build and expand in North Carolina. Companies such as Apple, Amazon, Google, Fidelity, Toyota, and FujiFIlm Diosynth have announced their planned presence, but it will likely take several years to feel the impacts of the companies. (abc11)

  5. Three nursing homes or assisted living facilities in Wake County have reported COVID outbreaks within the last week. Although we are still seeing outbreaks in high risk areas, in order for cases to be considered an outbreak, there only has to be two positive cases including breakthrough or in unvaccinated individuals. The number of deaths last month is down 95% from this time last year with about 90% of residents across the state vaccinated. (WNCT9)
