2 adults, 3 juveniles taken to area hospitals after SUV crash in Darke County

Two adults and three juveniles have been taken to area hospitals after an SUV crash in Darke County late Sunday.

Darke County Sheriff Deputies responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Ohio 49 Sunday night.

Crews responded to a crash with multiple injuries on the 4000 block of Ohio 49 around 11:20 p.m., according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Sarah Burkhart, 33, of Greenville, was traveling northwest on State Route 49.

Burkhart traveled off the left side of the roadway and hit a tree head-on.

Burkart was freed by mechanical means and flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight.

The front seat passenger Jeremiah Burkhart, 37, of Greenville, was treated at the scene and later taken to Wayne Health Care for his injuries.

Three juveniles in the back seat were taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital by CareFlight.

Video from the scene shows the SUV’s front end wrapped around a tree. Emergency crews responding can be seen investigating the crash.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
