Sheriff’s office sending two vehicles to Johnson C. Smith

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office is sending two of its vehicles to a local university to be used by campus safety staff.

At Wednesday night’s Board of Commissioners meeting, county leaders approved the transfer to Johnson C. Smith University. They are two “high-mileage” Dodge Chargers scheduled to be decommissioned: one a 2014 model and the other a 2018.

State law allows one North Carolina local government to donate obsolete or unused personal property to another governmental unit within the United States.

JCSU’s Chief of Campus Police Walter Edwards made the request.
