Sheriff investigating Ryle High School prank involving 75 students. Staff hurt in cleanup

The Boone County School District said it received reports that some staff members were injured while cleaning up after a student prank at Ryle High School earlier this week.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident involving 75 students.

According to the district, students created “extensive damage” to the school.

“Unfortunately, the students’ actions created potentially dangerous and unsafe conditions for our students and staff," the district said in a statement Friday. They didn't release any details about the damage.

The school district and the sheriff’s office are still investigating the incident.

Parents have been notified and the district is implementing an "an appropriate plan of disciplinary action."

“We cannot speak to the student’s status as it relates to school functions,” Boone County Major Philip Ridgell said. “We did attend a meeting with the administration yesterday. The incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed as of yet."

Ridgell says he has no further details to provide at this time, including copies of reports and photographs.

Enquirer media partner FOX19 NOW requested comment from Boone County Schools on whether students involved in the prank will be permitted to participate in graduation activities, but they have not responded.
