San Bernardino deputies fatally shoot suspected driver who pinned officer with vehicle
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a suspect after allegedly intentionally using his vehicle to strike and pin a deputy in Rancho Cucamonga.
The Sheriff’s Department reported that at approximately 7:14 p.m. on Saturday, Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station deputies conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Toyota Matrix related to retail theft in the 11800 block of Foothill Boulevard.
The area is between Milliken and Rochester avenues, just west of Victoria Garden.
As deputies searched the Toyota, a Hyundai Elantra, driven by Marlon Bonds, 34, of Santa Monica, approached the scene from the north.
Bonds accelerated towards the deputies, hitting one of them and pinning him between the two vehicles. The suspect then exited the Hyundai with a knife and aggressively approached the deputies, who fired and struck him, sheriff’s officials said.
Bonds was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased, according to the sheriff’s department.
The deputy suffered injuries to his leg after being pinned between the vehicles. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released. He is recovering at home.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded and conducted the investigation, which revealed no connection between Bonds and the initial theft investigation.
The incident remains under investigation.
