A driver passing by Monday around 10 a.m. saw one of the bodies floating, he said.

The pond is at Southwest Warfield Boulevard and Southwest Indiantown Avenue.

The bodies have not been identified and ages are undetermined, Cummings said.

"Water destroys a lot of evidence," Cummings said. "There's marine life and things like that that just wouldn't allow you to facially recognize someone. And obviously, if you have to go to fingerprints, or something like that, it takes a while for the process."

The Treasure Coast medical examiner is expected to conduct autopsies Tuesday, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies were gathering near the pond Monday afternoon.

Martin County Fire Rescue and state Fish and Wildlife Commission dive teams are assisting the Sheriff's Office searching for evidence.

No other information was available early Monday afternoon.
