Sheriff's office investigating death at Johnson County jail, no foul play suspected

No foul play is suspected in the death of a detainee Friday morning at the Johnson County Jail.

Leomeir V. Kennedy of Vancouver, Washington, was found unconscious in a cell by corrections officers, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Kennedy, who was found in cardiac arrest and received CPR before emergency medical service arrived, was pronounced dead at the jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

An autopsy and toxicology test will take place in the investigation into Kennedy's death, according to the sheriff's office.

Kennedy was facing charges of child molestation and possession of child pornography in a case filed by Johnson County prosecutors in April, court records show.

Kennedy admitted to molesting multiple children to a Greenwood detective, including at his former place of employment the Hopebridge Autism Therapy Center in Indianapolis. A mother also came to the department and reported Kennedy had admitted to molesting her daughter, according to court records.

Kennedy worked at the center eight to nine months and was a primary caretaker of young children with autism, according to court records.

In July, a mother filed a lawsuit against the therapy center and Kennedy, claiming her daughter was abused by Kennedy under the care of the center, court records show.

The lawsuit remains pending.
