21-year-old charged with killing his father taken into custody in Polk County

MILL SPRING - The Polk County Sheriff's Office said on July 17 it was investigating an alleged homicide in the Mill Spring community, and the suspect, who was the son of the victim, is now in custody.

The sheriff's office said in a news release that at 10 p.m. on July 17, Qualon Sutton, 21, was taken into custody outside of his mother's residence near the Polk County/Rutherford County line. The case will be turned over to the 42nd Prosecutorial District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

According to a news release, the sheriff's office responded to a shots fired call at 11:30 a.m. July 17 at 3653 Fox Mountain Road, and when deputies arrived, they found Robert "Bo” Forney dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to multiple witnesses, the victim's son, Sutton, had been seen in an altercation with his father earlier in the day. After further investigation, detectives presented the evidence gathered to a magistrate, who issued a first-degree murder warrant for Sutton.

Polk County Sheriff Tim Wright said in the news release he'd like to thank the men and women of the Polk County Sheriff's Office "for their hard work and dedication in this matter." He also thanked members of the public who "provided invaluable information that led to a peaceful resolution."

Other agencies that assisted were the US Marshals Service, the Fletcher Police Department and the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, the release said.
