Sheriff's office: Man pulls gun on deputy, arrest made after five-hour standoff

STAUNTON — Authorities arrested a man early Wednesday morning following a five-hour standoff after he reportedly pulled a gun on an Augusta County Sheriff's Office deputy.

The situation ended after authorities made entry into a camper and shot the man with non-lethal beanbags, according to Lt. Leslie Snyder, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office.

Snyder said shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, after being dispatched to the 1400 block of New Hope Road for a welfare check, a deputy made contact with 64-year-old Allen D. Kisamore of Staunton. Snyder said when Kisamore opened the door to the camper, he allegedly pointed a rifle at the deputy.

After the deputy retreated, numerous attempts were made to get Kisamore to surrender but he reportedly refused. The Augusta County Sheriff's Office SWAT, K-9 and negotiation teams were then called to the scene, and a perimeter was established.

After approximately five hours of negotiations, Snyder said sheriff's office personell entered the camper and fired non-lethal beanbag rounds at Kisamore before taking him into custody.

"They had to go in and make entry," Snyder said.

Kisamore is charged with brandishing a firearm, obstruction of justice and destruction of property.

Following the incident, he was taken to Augusta Health in Fishersville by Augusta County Fire-Rescue, where he was treated for minor injuries sustained by the use of the beanbag rounds. After being released from the hospital, Kisamore was taken to Middle River Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.

“This was an isolated incident that was quickly contained by the deputies and resolved the best way possible for everyone involved,” said Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith.
