Jeff McKnight, 30th District Court judge, said he was informed of the scam Wednesday afternoon and that the scammer claims to be calling about warrants for failing to appear for grand jury summons.

McKnight said according to WCSO reports, the scammer calls a person claiming to have an arrest warrant for failure to appear. The scammer then tells the person they must immediately pay $250 or they will be arrested by the WCSO, which is an indication the call is a scam.

The Wichita County Sheriff Office public information officer Melvin Joyner said their office does not call people who have outstanding warrants and he warns the public to be aware of scams.
