Sherri Shepherd tapped to return as guest host of ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ in December

Sherri Shepherd appears to be the guest host with the most when it comes to “The Wendy Williams Show.”

The Emmy Award-winning funnywoman has been tapped to return to the nationally syndicated talk show in December amid Williams’ ongoing health issues.

Noting her previous stints earned the chatfest its highest ratings, show producers officially announced Shepherd will handle the chores from Dec. 13-17.

Early November episodes with the former co-host of “The View” achieved a 0.9 rating, which was a 13% boost from the previous week and tied with “Ellen” and “Kelly Clarkson” for third place among daytime syndicated talk shows.

“I was thrilled to learn that my hosting week in November was so well received by the loyal viewers of this show,” Shepherd said. “It’s not easy to do what Wendy has successfully done for so many years. I am grateful to Wendy, the entire Wendy Williams team and Wendy’s fans for trusting me to host for another week. It’s been a dream come true, and I can’t wait to bring back my brand of flirty-fun, fabulous guests and feel-good excitement when I return in December.”

The show’s executive producer David Perler commented: “Sherri is a great fit for the show and she engages with our viewers with her relatable conversations and unique point of view on the hottest topics. We’re very happy to welcome her back and can’t wait to see what she’ll bring to our viewers and station partners this time around!”

Although the return of Williams doesn’t seem likely before the new year, the 57-year-old offered an update on her recovery on Nov. 9.

The recently divorced Williams hasn’t hosted the show since it returned Sept. 20 for the start of its 13th season.

For a few weeks, the show’s scheduled return was delayed due to ongoing health issues, which included allegedly testing positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19.

In her absence, numerous guest hosts have filled in, including bestselling author Leah Remini and “Rupaul’s Drag Race” judge Michelle Visage, and comedians Whitney Cummings, Dulce Sloan, Michelle Buteau and Ms. Pat.

Michael Rapaport, Bill Bellamy, Jerry Springer, Steve Wilkos, Fat Joe, Remy Ma and Williams’ “favorite hot talk panelists” — bestselling author and Sirius XM host Bevy Smith, Variety magazine senior reporter Elizabeth Wagmeister, relationship expert Devyn Simone and comedian Michael Yo — have also commandeered the Manhattan-based chatfest.
