Music icon Sheryl Crow, comedian Jay Leno and critically acclaimed group The Avett Brothers are scheduled to appear at the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater as part of the institute's star-studded summer schedule of performers and lecturers.

Nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow will perform at the Chautauqua Amphitheater on July 12 at 7 p.m. Opening for Crow will be five-time Grammy-winning bluesman Keb’ Mo’ and the soulful blues band Southern Avenue.

Nine-time Grammy Award-winning Crow will perform hits like “All I Wanna Do” and “Soak Up the Sun” on July 12 at the amphitheater, 1 Ames Ave., Chautauqua, New York. Crow has had 40 singles reach the charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Mainstream Top 40 and Hot Country Songs charts.

Crow's show starts at 7 p.m. with opening performances by five-time Grammy-winning bluesman Keb’ Mo’ and the soulful blues band Southern Avenue.

Prices for the Crow performance range from $69 to $124.

Stand-up comedian, former longtime late-night TV show host of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and pioneering car builder and mechanic, Leno will perform July 22 at 8:15 p.m. Ticket prices range from $65 to $140.

Leno, considered one of the hardest working performers in the business, is renowned for his playful monologues on current affairs or public figures. He dominated the ratings in late-night TV talk shows for two decades and continues to earn honors with his Emmy-winning series, "Jay Leno's Garage," where he gives car reviews and shares his passion and expertise on vehicles of all makes and models.

With a No. 1 album on Billboard's Top Albums Chart on their resume, folk-rock band The Avett Brothers return for their third Chautauqua appearance on Aug. 24 at 8:15 p.m. Ticket prices range from $65 to $140.

The band has charted 11 singles, including the No. 1 "Ain't No Man" on Billboard's Adult Alternative Airplay, and created 10 studio albums. Their album "True Sadness" (2016) hit No. 1 on Billboard charts and scored two Grammy nominations.

A critically acclaimed HBO documentary, "May It Last: A Portrait of The Avett Brothers," was shown at Chautauqua in 2018. Additionally, a musical inspired by and featuring the music of The Avett Brothers, "Swept Away," recently debuted at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, California.

The namesake of pop/rock group Ben Folds Five, who has recorded multiple solo albums and several collaborative records, will bring his "Ben Folds: In Actual Person Live for Real Tour" to Chautauqua on June 28 at 8:15 p.m. The tour includes solo piano performances. Tickets range between $45 and $75.

Folds' 2015 album, "So There," was a mix of pop songs and his "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra" went to No. 1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts. He also is the first ever artistic advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center and a best-selling author.

On July 27, comedy film titans Rob Reiner and Mel Brooks will be among the hosts for "Carl Reiner at 100 – Celebrating a Comedy Legacy," which is presented in partnership with the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York. Tickets range from $45 to $55 for the show, which starts at 8:15 p.m.

The event will reflect on Carl Reiner’s seven-decade career as a writer, director, producer, author and performer. There will be in-person and video appearances from special guests and footage from the National Comedy Center’s new exhibition on Carl Reiner opening this summer. Carl Reiner died in 2020 at the age of 98.

Emerging jazz pianist, organist and composer Matthew Whitaker will perform Aug. 17 at 8:15 p.m. A former child prodigy profiled on "60 Minutes" and the "Today" show, Whitaker, 20, has been blind since birth and has been touring around the world since he was 11 years old.

He has performed at such venues as Carnegie Hall and the Apollo Theater with artists including Christian McBride, Regina Carter, Jason Moran, Jon Batiste and the New York Pops Orchestra.

Tickets for Whitaker's performance range from $45 to $65.

On Aug. 22, Grammy-winning folk band Punch Brothers returns to Chautauqua with a new record: "Hell on Church Street." Tickets are $45 to $85 for the show that opens at 8:15 p.m.

Mandolinist Chris Thile will perform double duty, speaking the next day on the Chautauqua Lecture Series. Thile's lecture, which costs $30, begins at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 23.

In a double bill of music legends, Emmylou Harris and Mary Chapin Carpenter join forces on Aug. 25 for a three-hour performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $60 to $100.

Harris is a 14-time Grammy winner and Billboard Century Award recipient with more than 25 albums in a career that has seen her inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. Her hits include "Sweet Dreams," "If I Could Only Win Your Love" and many more.

Carpenter, with hits like “Passionate Kisses” and “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” has won five Grammy Awards and is one of only 15 female members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Carpenter has sold more than 15 million records in her prodigious career.

Offerman is best known as the character of "Ron Swanson" on NBC’s “Parks & Recreation.” His recent roles include parts in the Hulu series “Pam & Tommy” and Amazon’s reboot of “A League of Their Own.” His latest book, "Where the Deer and the Antelope Play: The Pastoral Observations of One Ignorant American Who Loves to Walk Outside," will help frame the closing presentation of the Chautauqua Lecture Series theme of “The Wild.”

Joan Chittister is lecturing at Chautauqua on Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Hall of Philosophy on Haven Avenue. Chittister, a frequent speaker at Chautauqua, is a Benedictine Sister from Erie and an international lecturer and award-winning author. Tickets are $15.

World-renowned author Salman Rushdie will be joined by Henry Reese on Aug. 12 at 10:45 a.m. as part of the lecture series. Tickets are $30.

Rushdie, who has won many of the world's literary prizes, is the author of 14 novels. Rushdie is joined by Reese, co-founder and president of City of Asylum in Pittsburgh, which provides sanctuary in Pittsburgh to writers exiled under threat of persecution. The pair will discuss the subject of the United States as asylum for writers and other artists in exile and as a home for freedom of creative expression.

Rushdie’s works include "The Satanic Verses" and his memoir, "Joseph Anton" — named for the pseudonym he used while in hiding from Ayatollah Khomeini in the midst of widespread controversy over "The Satanic Verses."

Also among the acts hitting the amphitheater stage this summer are celebrated violinist Joshua Bell with acclaimed soprano Larisa Martinez (June 25); Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra's “Independence Day Celebration" (July 4); British vocal ensemble VOCES8 (Aug. 9); harmony trio Girl Named Tom (Aug. 19); and singer Rhiannon Giddens and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra (Aug. 23). The packed calendar of Chautauqua events also includes symphonies, chamber music, theatrical performances, ballets, recitals, lectures and more.
