Sheryl Crow and Willie Nelson punched a ticket this week to the Rock & Roll Hall Fame.

The unbounded Nashville hitmaker and well-traveled country legend join a 2023 Rock Hall induction class that includes rapper Missy Elliott, outspoken rock band Rage Against The Machine, 1980s icon George Michael, "Running Up That Hill" singer-songwriter Kate Bush and Motown group The Spinners, the Hall announced early Wednesday.

Crow and Nelson were first-time Rock Hall nominees among a group of 15 finalists that included The White Stripes, Soundgarden, Cyndi Lauper and Iron Maiden. To be eligible, an artist or band must be 25 years removed from its first commercial recording. Roughly 1,000 historians, musicians and music industry veterans cast ballots each year for the Rock Hall.

The Hall also honors one-time Nashville musician and Bob Dylan collaborator Al Kooper as a member of the 2023 class. A Musicians Hall of Famer, Kooper performed on the Dylan sessions in Nashville that became storied folk album "Blonde on Blonde."

They'll be inducted Nov. 3 during a ceremony at the Barclays Center in New York City.

Sheryl Crow

Listeners likely recognize Crow for her essential additions to the 1990s musical canon: "All I Wanna Do," "Every Day Is A Winding Road," "The First Cut Is The Deepest," "If It Makes You Happy" ... and the list goes on.

After moving to Middle Tennessee roughly two decades ago, she became a sought-after collaborator and familiar face on some of the city's biggest stages. Crow often crisscrosses generations and genres in the studio, working with legends such as Kris Kristofferson and Emmylou Harris, as well as trendsetting modern acts like The Highwomen and Chris Stapleton.

She's a regular on Nashville's biggest stages, often joining all-star tribute concerts and one-off benefits for local causes. Last year, Crow headlined Live on the Green, a free festival hosted by radio station Lightning 100; this summer, she returns to Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival for the first time since 2018.

Off the stage this year, Crow joined a group of Nashville artists pushing state lawmakers to pass common-sense gun reform in the wake of the Covenant School shooting.

Willie Nelson

Nelson emerges as the latest addition to a growing cast of country artists to earn for a spot among rock 'n' roll royalty. He joins an elite class of artists — including Elvis Presley, Bill Monroe, Brenda Lee, the Everly Brothers, Hank Williams and Dolly Parton — inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Nelson receives his Rock Hall invitation days after a who's who lineup of country, Americana and rock artists — including Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Kris Kristofferson and Keith Richards — celebrated the singer's 90th birthday at a two-night concert in Los Angeles.
