Shetland season 8 gets tense trailer and first look at Ugly Betty star

Shetland has released a first trailer for season 8, and given fans a first look at Ugly Betty star Ashley Jensen in the cast.
The BBC One crime drama series is due to return next month after just over a year off air, with a tense new teaser giving a taste of the action to come.
In it, we are introduced to Jensen's character DI Ruth Calder, who is on the tail of a murder witness called Ellen, and also reveals her link to the Shetlands, having been born there.

The tension then ramps up as Calder and Alison 'Tosh' McIntosh (Alison O'Donnell) get closer to the truth of where Ellen has disappeared to.
Season 8 will see Calder arrive to "retrieve the vulnerable witness to a gangland murder", according to the synopsis.
"Tosh (Alison O’Donnell) must pause her investigation into a string of mysterious animal deaths to help Calder find the witness before it's too late," it continues.

"However, Calder's hostility to Shetland will challenge Tosh's view of her adopted home, and their journey into the darker recesses of Shetland's past and present will test this fragile new partnership."
Other new cast additions for season 8 include Downtown Abbey's Phyllis Logan, Guilt's Jamie Sives, Holby City's Dawn Steele, EastEnders' Don Gilet, River City's Ann Louise Ross and Outlander's Lorraine McIntosh.
Jensen joins the cast following the exit of Douglas Henshall as DI Jimmy Perez in season 7, with the DI's final scenes seeing him resign from the force after helping a man escape extradition and death.
Shetland season 8 will premiere on Wednesday, November 1 on BBC One and iPlayer.
