Shia LaBeouf Thought His Career 'Was Over;' Because of 2017 Arrest, Joined Peace Corp

Shia LaBeouf was arrested in 2017 during the making of his movie, 'The Peanut Butter Falcon' for being drunk in public and disorderly. The drunken stupor and arrest because of his actions happened in Savannah, Georgia. He asked an innocent bystander and a cop for a cigarette and when they refused him one, he started screaming obscenities at them in public.

The police officer who was there at the time and would later be the one to arrest LaBeouf told him to leave. When he refused to leave and kept screaming curse words and obscenities at them and everyone around, the officer attempted to arrest him. However, LaBeouf started running away and made the police chase him back to his hotel room where he was finally caught and arrested. That night, he was charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction, and of course, public drunkenness.

Because of the arrest, LaBeouf thought his career 'was over' and chose to move on to something else, signing up for the Peace Corp. He said he was prepared to leave his public life behind.

Although he had the achievements he made fresh in his mind while being interviewed by Kimmel, he still talked about the past when he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in public and cursing at a police officer and the people around him.

He told Kimmel, "I wasn’t planning on making a movie. I thought the actor thing was over,"

He continued, talking about the arrest, his decision to sign up for the Peace Corps, and entering rehab back then.

"I signed up to go to the Peace Corps and then went into this rehab facility and was there for two months."

When he was asked by his therapists to write about his childhood traumas to help him process it and move on from it, what started out as a simple exercise for therapy, turned into a screenplay for the movie about his childhood traumas which is the movie 'Honey Boy.'

He told Jimmy Kimmel during the interview Wednesday night, "I’d written this thing and plans changed. When I got out I wasn’t going to do the peace corps no more," He also said, "They were very peaceful about it."

'Honey Boy' is out in theaters now and is getting a lot of buzz already. LaBeouf is also getting praise for the confessional work he has done with the movie.
