SHIFT Talks Are Bringing the Dallas Design Scene Together

In Dallas, those in the design trade are facing different issues than those working in New York, Paris, or Milan. To address things in an ever-changing industry, two women have founded SHIFT, a monthly event to bring together architects, designers, showroom owners, vendors and more on how to take on problems as a group and grow the Texas design scene.

Founded by Mili Suleman, owner of KUFRI Textiles, and Holly Hickey Moore, of HHM Interior Design, SHIFT aims to connect members of the design trade through discussions and networking in the hope that it will ultimately bring Dallas to the forefront of the design world.

“It's a known fact that Dallas is about five to eight years behind in the realms of design, fashion, and art; we hope SHIFT delivers a fresh dose of energy and challenges that status quo,” says co-founder Mili Suleman.

SHIFT’s talks are hosted by local showrooms, designers, and vendors every third Thursday of the month. With so much of the interior design trade using Instagram as a staple of the profession, attendees can RSVP for each summit by reaching out via the app. Each SHIFT meeting is structured in a Mastermind-format roundtable, where every member of the group has an opportunity to speak at length about a challenge in their business and receive advice from other attendees.

Selected topics like "PR and Getting the Most out of It," and "What's Trending," or even the broader state of design in Dallas, are used to evoke meaningful conversation and inspire guests to think about their business or design in innovative ways.

“Design is about taking chances, and we want to create an atmosphere that allows for risks, failures, and triumphs,” says Suleman. “We want SHIFT to be the voice and platform that helps put Dallas on the map as a leading design city.”
