Shillington church service to celebrate creativity and art [Religion Digest]

May 20----On Sunday at the 9 a.m. worship service, Immanuel United Church of Christ, 99 S. Waverly St, Shillington, will celebrate the varied ways creativity and art connect us with the Holy Spirit and one another. Immanuel will celebrate its musicians, feature the Snack Club jazz group with Mike Eben, Ken Kemmerer, Carl Zeplin, Tim Gross and John Fundyga and hear from Dane Burkhart and Ann Lemon on how the spirit of their late son Amos brings new hope and healing to others. During adult forum following worship, Lemon and Burkhart will share more about the Amos Lemon Burkhart Foundations. At 7:30 p.m., Immanuel will host Vox Philia's the Light of Love Concert, featuring James Whitbourn's "Luminosity," Jake Runestad's "The Hope of Loving" and Berks County composer David Himes' "Euclid." Unique to this concert will be lighting by Jeff Cusano of Arethusa Designs and choreography by Jennifer Parker Scott, exploring the themes of light and love inspired by the music. —Those with special needs/IIDD, their friends and family are invited to the Berks Festival of Faith free supper and worship service at Bern Lutheran Church, 820 W. Leesport Road, Bern Township, on Tuesday. The free shepherd's pie dinner prepared by members of Zion Lutheran Church in Perry Township will be served from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The Ascension Day worship service will begin at 5:45.

—St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 2901 Curtis Road, West Lawn, will host Breakfast with a Purpose on Sunday at 11 a.m. immediately following the 10 a.m. worship service. The free breakfast will include quiche, French toast, sausage, fresh fruit and coffee. Free will donations will be accepted to help local community members in need. In addition, the Women's Ministry will sell small garden plants after the service.in the pavilion behind the church. The breakfast will be in the church social hall below the sanctuary.

—Lighthouse Christian Center will have a skating party next Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at Skateaway, 2275 Lancaster Pike, Cumru Township. Cost is $10 in advance and $13 at the door. Entrance, food and rental are included. Call Clara at 484-529-3245 or Ana at 484-793-5659 to purchase tickets.

—Zion Spies Evangelical Reformed Church, 318 Spies Church Road, Alsace Township, will hold a pet blessing service on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in its grove, weather permitting.

—Rosedale Camp Ground, 1616 Vine St., Laureldale, will hold the following events next Saturday: breakfast, 7-11 a.m.; American Gospel film, 8 p.m.

—Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County, will have coffee and conversation at 8:30 a.m. There will be a coffee hour at 10 a.m. in honor of the confirmands in the Welcome Center.

—St. John's Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown will offer a free drive-through takeout meal today from 4:30-6:30 p.m. No registration necessary.

—Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township, will have Confirmation and its Sunday school end-of-the-year program during the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

—Betsy Majewski will be the guest preacher at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday at Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Centre Ave., Reading.

—St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 W. Arch St., Fleetwood, will have coffee hour in the social room after the 9 a.m. service in the social room. A rummage/white elephant sale will be held on June 2 and 3.

—On Sunday morning from 9 to 9:45 in the parlor at Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, the Rev. Ross Tortora will present "The Road to Jericho Is a Road to Compassion." Parking is available at the Abe Lincoln Hotel parking garage and the M&T Bank lot. Handicap spaces are available beside the church on Court Street.

—The Rev. Bill Worley, Conference Minister for the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ, will address the growing crisis of decline in churches at Spirit on Tap on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 701 Penn St., Reading.
