Shine city: Another new car wash is coming to the Columbia area in this busy stretch

The Midlands area is known for a number of things.

The seat of state government. The state’s flagship university. Abundant natural resources. And, apparently, a love of shiny cars.

As part of what has been a seemingly burgeoning trend, there’s another new car wash set to open in the Midlands area. A Mighty Wash Auto Spa is under construction at 7728 Broad River Road in the Irmo area. That’s just west of Interstate 26, near an Enterprise car rental facility and across the road from Waffle House.

A sign at the property says the Mighty Wash is coming soon, and construction workers were on the site when a reporter went by on Thursday.

There is one other Mighty Wash Auto Spa in the Midlands, in Lugoff.

The Irmo location of Mighty Wash is coming to a high-traffic thoroughfare. More than 24,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Broad River Road, and more than 90,000 cars per day go down Interstate 26 nearby, per state traffic count data.

Car washes have been been steadily popping up across the Midlands. For instance, a Big Dan’s car wash has opened on Elmwood Avenue in Columbia, and a Take 5 car wash just opened in the 2800 block of Augusta Road in West Columbia. Meanwhile, a Frank’s Car Wash recently opened on Main Street in Blythewood.

Also, a new Mod Wash has opened just off Harbison Boulevard, and a Time To Shine car wash is now open at 291 Harbison Blvd. near the Columbiana Centre mall.
