Brady Shivers and Kale Hughes made an eagle on each side in Friday's first round of the LakeRidge Stampede, shooting 11-under-par 61.

The Seminole residents, trying to win the tournament for the second year in a row and third time in five years, have a one-shot lead on Jacob Doggett and Tyler Ware going into Saturday's second round. Doggett is a former Midwestern State golfer, and Ware, from Georgetown, was part of the runner-up team two years ago.

The 54-hole tournament continues through Sunday.

Shivers and Hughes eagled LakeRidge's holes No. 2 and No. 16, both par-5s. They shot 6-under on the front nine and 5-under on the back.

Ware and Doggett also eagled No. 2 and birdied five holes in a six-hole stretch from Nos. 12 through 17.

Two-time Men's City champion Beau Burgess and Ty Houtchens are in third after a 65, followed by the teams of 2020 champions Cody King-Michael Pruitt at 66 and Jason Staggs-Shaun Melville at 67. Shivers and Hughes edged Staggs and Melville on the first hole of a playoff to win last year's title.
