Shockers take down UTSA in blowout fashion, 84-64

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita State Shockers took hold of the lead early on and never gave it up, blowing out the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners on Wednesday, 84-64.

The Shockers grabbed a 6-5 lead with 17:45 left in the first half, grew the lead to 20 points, 44-24, and did not allow the Roadrunners to make a meaningful dent in the lead throughout the rest of the game.

Colby Rogers, who had regularly led the Shockers in scoring, was the leading scorer with 18 points. Xavier Bell (11), Harlond Beverly (16) and Quincy Ballard (11) all joined him in double-figure scoring.

As a team, the Shockers shot 43.7% from the field and 36.8% from three. They were also a perfect 15-15 from the free throw line, a breath of fresh air from previous games where they left multiple points at the charity stripe.

While the Shockers have struggled in the past with turnovers, Paul Mills’ squad seems to have turned a corner. They only committed eight Wednesday night, up three from last weekend’s loss to Memphis but less than their season average.

The win puts the Shockers at 10-13 on the season and 2-7 in AAC play. Up next, Wichita State will stay at home, where the Florida Atlantic Owls will come to town on Sunday. The game tips off at 11 a.m. and will air on ESPN2.
