These shocking images show the aftermath of a suspected gas explosion that ripped through a home leaving a number of people in hospital.

Four people were following the incident at the property in Evesham.

Emergency services were called to the incident in Hemmingway shortly after 5pm on Tuesday.

A male victim was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham while two other adults were taken to Hereford County Hospital, West Mercia Police said.

A fourth person was treated by paramedics on Tuesday evening.

Resident Sandra Cox said she heard "almighty bang" and felt her house shake following the explosion.

She told the BBC: "We were just sitting in the lounge, playing with the children and having a good time, when all of a sudden... there was an almighty bang.

"[It] frightened the life out of all of us. It shook the house, it was horrible."

Some 10 neighbouring properties were evacuated and a police cordon remains in place while officers respond to the incident.

People have been asked to stay away from the area and a road closure is in effect at the scene.

Cox added the scene was “chaotic" and was filled with fire engines, ambulances and police cars, following the blast.

West Mercia Police said in a statement: “Four people have been injured following a suspected gas explosion in Evesham, Worcestershire, this evening (Tuesday 27 December).

“Emergency services were called to the incident on Hemmingway shortly after 5pm.

“One man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and two other adults are being taken to Hereford County Hospital.

“A fourth person is being treated by paramedics at this time.

“Ten neighbouring properties have been evacuated as a precaution.

“A road closure and police cordon remain in place whilst we respond to the incident.

“We’re asking you to stay away from the area at this time, thank you for your understanding.”
