Shohei Ohtani joins Babe Ruth on exclusive list after hitting 100th home run

Los Angeles Angels’ two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani hit his 100th career home run during a game against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.

The fifth inning hit made Ohtani the third Japanese-born player to hit 100 or more home runs in MLB history, just behind baseball legends Hideki Matsui and Ichiro Suzuki.

The 27-year-old athlete now follows in Babe Ruth’s footsteps as the second player with at least 100 home runs as a hitter and at least 250 strikeouts as a pitcher in MLB history.

"One hundred is a big number," the reigning American League MVP said during a post-game interview. "I'm proud of it. But it's early in the season."

Ohtani’s home run also helped the Angels pull off a 9-1 victory over the Athletics.

"He does it every day," Angels manager Joe Maddon said. "It's not surprising anymore. I don't want to say expecting it, but we're expecting it. That's just who he is right now. He's going to keep adding on to that. You're going to hear more names, more milestones. He's a baseball player. He loves to play."

A day after the milestone, Ohtani hit his 101st career home run and his eighth home run this season in another victory against the Athletics.
