Shonda Rhimes has reacted to Station 19 being given the axe, officially coming to an end with its seventh season.

In an Instagram post, the producer paid tribute to the Grey's Anatomy spin-off, thanking cast and crew of the show as well as fans who have been tuning in since its 2018 debut.

"Grateful for an unforgettable run," Rhimes captioned two shots of the main cast.

"A heartfelt salute to the exceptional cast whose brilliance brought the characters to life and to the viewers who continued to make it possible!" her message continued.

"Thank you for the magic, the moments, and the memories."

Last week, it was announced that the series focusing on the lives of the firefighters at Seattle Fire Station 19 would bow out with its upcoming run. ABC confirmed the news, reassuring fans there is "so much to look forward to" this final season.

"For seven seasons, Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to [producers] Shonda [Rhimes] and Betsy [Beers]'s incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling," Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich said in a statement (via TVLine).

"With [head writers] Zoanne [Clack] and Peter [Paige] at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode."

The second Grey's spin-off after Private Practice, Station 19 was created by Stacy McKee, with Grey's long-time writer Krista Vernoff replacing McKee as showrunner since season 3.

Grey's Anatomy season 20 and Station 19's final season will premiere on March 14, 2024 on ABC in the US. Grey's streams on Disney+ in the UK.
