Strong winds and reports of tornadoes hit southeastern South Dakota on Thursday night, causing widespread damage across communities.

In Castlewood, a tornado caused significant damage to a school and multiple homes. Gov. Kristi Noem traveled to the Hamlin County town Thursday night to survey the damage.

In Sioux Falls, officials confirmed one person died during the severe weather.
