WEST PALM BEACH —  A person was wounded in a shooting on Clematis Street during the first hours of Labor Day, according to West Palm Beach Police.

The 24-year-old victim was shot multiple times and was in critical condition on Monday evening but is expected to recover, according to police department spokesman Mike Jachles.

Police officers arrived at the city's downtown area at 1:30 a.m. and surrounded a parking lot on 213 Clematis St., where the sound of gunshots had been reported. The lot sits on the western stretch of the popular street between Lynora's and Grease Burger Bar.

Jachles said police officers found the victim in the parking lot as two male suspects were fleeing the scene in an Audi.

That vehicle was later found across the county line in Deerfield Beach after it had been involved in a car crash on the block of NW 1700 NW 2nd St. The two men who had been seen fleeing in the Audi then ran from the vehicle.

One of them, who police say was driving the auto, took off in a black sedan. Broward and Boynton Beach police officers found the second individual, the passenger, hiding under a car in a nearby apartment complex.

That suspect, who police identified as Montez J. Grinnon, 26, was taken into custody and arrested for outstanding warrants unrelated to the shooting, said Jachles.

Police have not been able to find the driver of the Audi, which they said was a rental vehicle. From that car, police say theyrecovered two hand guns and other evidence that hasn't been made public. Video surveillance was also recovered.

The West Palm Beach Police Department is still investigating the incident.

Jachels urges anybody who has information about the shooting and the unfolding events after to call West Palm Beach Police at 561-822-1900. People who want to remain anonymous can also call Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 1(800)458-TIPS(8477) and tips that lead to arrest can result in a cash reward.

This story will be updated as more information is made available to the public.
