One man is in custody after an early Sunday shooting at a crowded outdoor Memorial Day event in Taft that left one person dead and seven others injured, including one juvenile, authorities said.

Skyler Buckner, 26, turned himself in at the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office at 4:05 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said the shooting occurred just after midnight at the Old City Square, where 1,500 people attended the annual holiday event about 125 miles east of Oklahoma City.

Witnesses reported gunfire following an argument.

A 39-year-old Black woman died as a result of the shooting, authorities said. The seven injured range in age from 9 to 56.

The Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office was in attendance at the event and rendered aid to victims, according to OSBI.

Muskogee County Emergency Medical Service Spokeswoman Trish German said two people were transported to a Muskogee hospital and a third was taken to a Tulsa hospital, according to The Muskogee Phoenix.

"There is a possibility that five or six more went by private vehicle," she said.
