Shooting, gunfire investigated in Manchester over the weekend

Jul. 17—A shooting and another incident involving gunfire took place on Elm Street in Manchester over the weekend.

A portion of Elm Street near Bridge Street was closed Saturday night after a man was shot.

Police responded to the area around 8:25 p.m. where according to preliminary reports, an occupant of a motor vehicle shot at another vehicle. A short time later, a man arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound.

The victim was listed in serious condition as of Saturday night.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Then, just after 1 a.m. Sunday, officers were trying to disperse a "large and unruly crowd" in the area of Elm and Lowell streets and break up several fights when gunfire erupted. Officers ran toward the sound of the gunfire and encountered numerous individuals fleeing the area.

No one was injured and no property was hit, according to a news release.

"According to initial reports, an occupant of a red sedan was firing rounds into the air while driving on Concord Street. This vehicle was last seen south on Elm Street," a news release reads.
