Shooting near Governor's Mansion in Jackson leaves 1 critically injured

A man is in critical condition following a shooting near the Governor's Mansion in downtown Jackson Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson Police Department spokesperson Sam Brown said officers from the Capitol Police Department found a man and a woman who had been shot in a vehicle at the corner of Capitol and Lamar streets around 1:30 p.m.

Brown said the woman suffered a non-life threating injury to the foot. The man traveling with her was able to get out of the car before collapsing at the scene.

Both people were transported to an area hospital. Their names have not yet been released.

Police are searching for a gold Toyota RAV4 believed to have been involved in the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477.
