Authorities have released the names of the three students killed in Tuesday’s shooting at Oxford High School. The victims were identified as Madisyn Baldwin, 17; Tate Myre, 16; and Hana St. Juliana, 14.

The number of those injured has risen to eight. Of those eight, seven are students and one is a teacher. The students’ ages range from 14 to 17; all remain in the hospital with gunshot wounds. One 14-year-old female is on a ventilator after surgery. The teacher, a 47-year-old female, suffered a graze wound to the shoulder and was discharged from the hospital following treatment.

Authorities believe the suspect used a semi-automatic handgun that his father allegedly purchased on Black Friday. Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe told CNN that he could possibly be charged as an adult. He is currently being held at Oakland County Children’s Village, a detention facility for juveniles, and is on suicide watch, Oakland County executive David Coulter told reporters.

In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, senior Aiden Page described the terrifying ordeal: “We grabbed calculators, we grabbed scissors, just in case the shooter got in and we had to attack them.”

Thousands from the Oxford community gathered for a candlelight vigil on Tuesday night, coming together to grieve and lean on one another in the wake of tragedy.

An online petition was started to rename the school’s stadium in honor of Tate Myre, a varsity running back on the football team. As of Wednesday morning, the petition had received over 46,000 signatures.

“Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford High School but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations,” wrote organizer Drake Biggie in the petition’s description.

Three people were killed and six others were injured in a shooting at Oxford High School in the Detroit metro area on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The suspect, a sophomore at the school, is in custody.

Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe said at a news conference that authorities received over a hundred 911 calls around 12:51 p.m. Officers arrived on scene and arrested the suspect. They recovered a semi-automatic handgun and believe 15 to 20 shots were fired.

“He did not give us any resistance when he was taken into custody,” McCabe said.

The three deceased are all believed to be students. The six injured, including one teacher, were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The names and ages of the victims were not immediately released.

A motive for the attack is unknown. The suspect has “already invoked his right not to speak,” McCabe told reporters.

The school was placed on lockdown until students were evacuated to a nearby grocery store to be reunited with their families.
