Shooting on Perry Ave. in Worcester; passerby charged with stealing money at scene

WORCESTER – A man in a car was shot on Perry Avenue Tuesday night, with the vehicle crashing moments later.

After the injured man and another occupant got out of the car, a passerby went into the crashed vehicle and stole some money, police said. This story has been corrected. Police said one man was shot.

Officers charged the man with larceny. Police said he was not involved in the shooting.

This is the third shooting in the area in less than a week. One man was shot and seriously injured in the latest shooting, and was taken to the hospital. The other man suffered minor injuries; it’s unclear whether he was shot. He declined medical treatment, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene after 9 p.m. The two men fled the crashed car but were located by police.

The shooting followed two others in the area – one of which resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl early Saturday.

On Saturday night, a man was also shot outside the movie theater at the Shoppes at Blackstone Valley in Millbury. His injuries were not fatal.

Police said the investigation into all three incidents is ongoing.

The motive for the latest shooting is unknown. Police declined to comment on whether any of the incidents are related.
