'Shooting Star' lands at McMurry, and more coming up in Abilene

McMurry University Theatre will present the student-directed play "Shooting Star" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Jan. 28-29 in the Ryan Little Theatre on campus.

The play, written by Steven Dietz and directed Hayli Isbell, follows a pair of former lovers who reunite in a snowed-in airport.

Burns supper

The Abilene Pipers will present the annual Burns Supper, celebrating the life of poet Robert Burns, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander St.

Texas Country Reporter turns 50

A concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of "Texas Country Reporter" will begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Paramount Theatre, 352 Cypress St.

The Hardin-Simmons University Cowboy Band will perform Texas-themed compositions, with live readings by Bob and Kelli Phillips.

Music of 'Oz'

The Abilene Philharmonic will present "The Wonderfully Wicked Music of Oz," featuring songs from several adaptations of the books, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Abilene Convention Center, 1100 N. Sixth St.

Youth sports expo

The Abilene Youth Sports Authority will present the West Texas All Youth Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Dodge Jones Youth Sports Center, 1042 Loop 322, with a variety of sports contests, demonstrations, showcase games, vendors and more.
