Shootout between moving vehicles on Bronx highway leaves woman clinging to life, man wounded by stray bullet

A woman was left clinging to life and a man was wounded by a stray slug when they were struck by a hail of bullets between moving vehicles on a Bronx highway, police said.

Shots were fired back and forth between a Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz zipping south on the Major Deegan Expressway near exit 4 in Mott Haven about 5 a.m. Sunday, police said.

A 27-year-old woman in the Mercedes was struck once in the back. She was taken to Harlem Hospital by private means, where she is critical condition, police said.

A 35-year-old man driving a Ford Edge in the right lane was struck in the leg by a stray bullet from the shooting, police said. Medics took him to Lincoln Hospital where he is expected to recover, officials said.

There are no arrests.
