The 2023 Waukee Citywide Garage Sale is planned for Saturday, April 29. Waukee residents are invited to host their yard or garage sale on this day. Residents and visitors are encouraged to enjoy perusing garage sales around Waukee for furniture, house goods, toys and many other items.

The Minburn UMC is hosting a garage sale where everything is FREE on Saturday, April 29. The sale will be held during the Minburn Citywide Garage Sales. Items will include clothing, shoes, household items, furniture and more.

Bouton Fire Department Spaghetti Supper

5-8 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at Bouton Community Center.

The Bouton Fire Department will host a spaghetti supper on Saturday, April 29. The menu includes salad, garlic bread, drinks and dessert. A free-will donation will be taken and to-go boxes will be available.

St. Patrick School Gala and Auction

5 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at St. Patrick School Gym.

St. Patrick School will welcome the Dueling Pianists for its second annual gala and auction on Saturday, April 29. The gala will feature professional entertainment, food and an assortment of silent and live auction items. The Perry community is invited to join St. Pat’s for a memorable evening to support its students, families, school and church. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased by calling the St. Patrick School Office at 515.465.4186 or at the door the evening of the event.

Waukee Spring Clean-Up Week

May 1-5 in Waukee.

Spring Clean-Up Week for City of Waukee garage & recycling customers is scheduled for May 1-5. Place large items on the curb by 7 a.m. on normally scheduled garbage collection day for free disposal. Ankeny Sanitation will pick up bulky items, such as furniture, oversized electronics and other large items up to five feet in length. Smaller items should be bagged or boxed.

Salad Luncheon

12 p.m. Tuesday, May 2 at United Methodist Church, 1100 3rd St., Perry.

The United Methodist Women are offering a salad luncheon for $10 on Tuesday, May 2. The menu includes a variety of salads, ham balls, deviled eggs, rolls and dessert. Entertainment will be Irish fiddle music performed by Dave Swenton. Please RSVP to Marylin Pentico at (515) 465-3162 by April 28.

DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy's annual end of the year celebration of students and staff is back and better than ever. Community members, students, staff and all DMACC supporters are invited to come taste some delicious tacos for $1 (limited supplies) during Tacopalooza on Wednesday, May 3. In addition, a job fair will be hosted on site to match employers with job seekers. Financial aid will be available to help with FAFSA and scholarship applications.

4-6 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at Perry Public Library Community Room.

May the 4th be with you as we celebrate all things Star Wars! Visit different stations from 4-6 p.m. in the Library Community Room. Stations include making pool noodle lightsabers and Baby Yoda origami and games like Pin the Bun on Princess Leia, “Blow Up” the Death Star and Use the Force. Miss Laura will also read some of her favorite Star Wars books at 4:30 p.m. and at 5:15 p.m. This is a free event for kids and no registration is required. How Education Has Changed Panel Discussion

6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at Carnegie Library Museum.

As we look back through the Perry High School yearbooks, it’s easy to see the differences between how students, their hairstyles, their clothes and the school have changed over the years. It’s not as easy to flip through yearbooks and understand how education in Perry has changed. Join Perry Educators for a panel discussion on Thursday, May 4. The discussion panel will include: Dr. Ryan Marzen, current Principal of Perry Elementary School; Trista Cohea, current Perry High School Teacher; Pat Mundy, retired Perry Teacher with a tenure spanning many decades; and Becky Reuter, a long-time teacher at Perry Elementary school who recently retired from teaching. They will share their experience and expertise as school personnel who have lived through it all. This event is free and open to the public. Parking Lot Fundraiser

12-7 p.m. Friday, May 5 at Perry Hy-Vee.

A parking lot fundraiser benefiting the family of Chad Morman will be held from 12-7 p.m. on Friday, May 5 at Perry Hy-Vee. The Hy-Vee Grill & Smoker will be open, along with Totally Rolled Ice Cream truck. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the family of Chad Morman.

Waukee Household Hazardous Waste, Appliance and Tire Drop-Off Day

Saturday, May 6 in Waukee.

Hazardous waste items can be taken to Vince Meyer Learning Center at 445 5th St. for free disposal. This includes items such as acid, rechargeable batteries, oil, antifreeze, lawn fertilizer, pesticides, pool chemicals and oil-based paints or aerosols. Latex paint will not be accepted. Cans of dried out latex paint can be placed in garbage bins with the regular trash; non-dried cans of latex paint can be taken to the Metro Waste Authority in Grimes for a fee. Sharps must be contained in detergent bottles or sharps containers (not milk jugs or soda pop bottles). Lids to sharps containers must be taped. Appliances and tires can be dropped at 1205 6th St. Appliances must be cleared of food, hazardous waste and garbage prior to drop-off. Up to five car tires may be dropped off free of charge. The drop-off fee for each additional car tire will be $1 and semi-truck and tractor tire drop-offs will cost $5 per tire. Rims will not be accepted. Residents in apartments, townhomes and Midwest Country Estates may have private garbage collection and are not eligible for curbside pick-up during Spring Clean-Up Week. Please refer to the property manager for guidance on disposing of large or bulky items.

Spring Green-up River Paddle

8-11 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at TBD, depending on local river conditions.As the cool, damp spring season transitions into the longer hotter days of summer, the natural world goes through many transitions. Join DCCB naturalists for a paddle along a stretch of one of the county’s water trails to take in the beauty and wonder offered by spring on the river. We will make occasional stops along the route to discuss and explore what we’re seeing. Attendees must provide their own boats, paddles and life jackets. Boats, paddles and jackets may be reserved and rented from Raccoon River Retreats near the Redfield Dam. Registration is required through the DCCB Eventbrite page.

Plant Sale

9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6 at Dallas County Fairgrounds.

The Dallas County Master Gardeners plant sale will return on Saturday, May 6. All proceeds will benefit the Dallas County Master Gardeners' demonstration garden. The event is open to the public. Items for sale will include perennials, annuals, vegetables, house plants, succulents, horticulture books, pre-potted arranged plants, plant containers, denim garden apron and garden art.

Project Deliver the Love

9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11 at Perry Lutheran Homes Eden Acres Campus, 1300 28th St., Perry.

This year, 150 volunteers are needed to bring sunshine, joy, and love to 450 older adults on Thursday, May 11 through "Project Deliver the LOVE." Volunteer shifts are 1.5 hours each so you can have time to chat for a bit to each basket recipient you deliver to. Basket assembly will take place at Perry Lutheran Homes Eden Acres Campus. Bike Rodeo

9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 13 at Adel City Hall parking lot, 301 S 10th St., Adel.

Children ages 5-12 are invited to bring their bicycles and helmets to participate in the 4th Annual Safety Bike Rodeo. This come-and-go event is free and offers interactive activities for children, free giveaways and a drawing for prizes. Bikes till be inspected and helmets checked for fit before children receive safety instruction and ride through the course. Children completing the safety course will receive a certificate of completion, bike safety information, a Rotary flyer and a bottle of water. Other activities will include tours of a police car and a fire engine and the opportunity to visit with an Adel Police Officer and Adel Firefighters.

Fiber Festival of Perry

10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13 at Hotel Pattee, Soumas Court, La Poste, Perry.

Get ready for Atelier at 1109's Fiber Festival of Perry and explore the fiber art world from start to finish. Visit the Hotel Pattee, Soumas Court and La Poste for a selection of local vendors that will have yarns, spinning wheels, drop spindles, woven and knit goods, fiber arts supplies and so much more for sale. View stunning quilts and learn from the talented members of the Perry Piecemakers Quilt Guild in the Spring Valley Ballroom. A spinning and crafting circle will be available, so attendees can bring their spinning wheel, drop spindle, WIP, or finished project to show off or work on. Classes and demonstrations will also be available all day. Atelier at 1109 artists have created a yarn bomb display located at 1109 2nd St. and Soumas Court in downtown Perry - PLUS view lightposts decorated in new handknit wrappings.
