Shop Local: Antique Row offers French furniture, Turkish carpets, vintage dresses and more

Antique Row in West Palm Beach is nestled among some of the city's oldest and venerated historic neighborhoods. Its shops and restaurants run on the east and west sides of South Dixie Highway north of Southern Boulevard and less than a half-mile from the Intracoastal Waterway. The northern border of Antique Row is less defined, and quickly expanding with new shops, but it roughly ends at Belvedere Road.

Unlike cookie-cutter outdoor malls and sterile shopping complexes, Antique Row is on real city streets where people live, work and shop for everything from 17th century French furniture, Turkish carpets and vintage dresses to more modest items at the Nearly New Thrift Shop. The Young Friends of the Historical Society of Palm Beach County host an event every spring called an Evening on Antique Row that includes food and entertainment and showcases the shops.

Antique Row: Best hours to shop, and on what days

Many shops on Antique Row are open year-round but it is also a very seasonal destination that is busiest from October through May. Shop owners often travel during the summer to antique shows to purchase merchandise for their stores. If you are interested in a particular store, call ahead to make sure they are open. Because you have to walk outside between shops, it's best to avoid midday to 3 p.m. during the summer months. Restaurants on Antique Row are open all year.
