Shoplifting case leads to woman's arrest on drug charge

Feb. 26—One of two women suspected of shoplifting items at Sally Beauty Supply in Milledgeville on Wednesday was later found in the possession of methamphetamine, local authorities say.

The woman arrested on the drug charge was identified as Mandy Davis, of Rogersville, Tenn., according to an incident report filed by Milledgeville Police Officer T. Schneider.

Davis was charged with one count of Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of methamphetamine. She was also charged with one count of theft by shoplifting, records show.

After her arrest, Davis was taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center and jailed.

Schneider said in his report that he planned to take out a warrant for a Milledgeville woman's arrest in connection with the alleged shoplifting incident. The woman was identified as Shirah Maria Hahn.

A clerk at Sally Beauty Supply on North Columbia Street called police after she spotted two women concealing unpaid for merchandise in their purses, according to the incident report. Schneider said the clerk was not able to provide a description of the items reportedly taken.

The police officer said he talked with Davis and Hahn.

"Hahn said she had not taken anything and was simply putting her phone in her purse," Schneider said in his report. "While speaking to Hahn, I observed her phone in her back right pocket."

The officer said Hahn was "very defensive" and told him she was going to her car to get some money.

As the woman walked outside, the officer said he asked her consent to search her purse, but she declined. Hahn told the officer she would empty the contents of her purse on his patrol car and indicated that everything in it belonged to her.

Schneider said while talking with Hahn, Davis took items out of her purse and handed them to a cashier.

"I also asked Davis if Hahn had attempted to conceal anything to which she stated, 'Yes,'" Schneider said. "Davis said Hahn put the items back when she saw my patrol vehicle outside."

The officer said Davis consented to him searching her purse. During the search, Schneider said he discovered a glass pipe and a small digital scale with a while powdery residue on it. The residue later field tested for methamphetamine.

It later was learned that Davis reportedly took $31.01 in items from the business.

At the request of the store clerk, Davis and Hahn were both trespassed from the business.
