Shopper Caught in Tornado-Warned Storm in Southern Ontario

A tornado-warned storm caused extensive damage to the town of Barrie, Ontario, amid a severe weather watch on July 15.

Eight injuries were reported following the storm, and around 3,800 residents were left without power.

Environment Canada forecast wind speeds of up to 110 km/h (68 mph) during the storm.

Video taken by Sheri Rising-Gaddas shows driving wind and rain in the parking lot of a Walmart in the town.

“I literally walked out of the South Barrie Walmart and right into this tornado! I thought Walmart was gonna fly into the sky!” she wrote on Facebook.

“Only got this much video before I had to run back in for safety! Scary as hell!” she added.

Environment Canada was due to send a team to confirm the tornado, local news said, but a meteorologist who spoke to CP24 said that the damage seen made it “very likely” one touched down. Credit: Sheri Rising-Gaddas via Storyful
