Shoppers arrive early for Santa's Secret Shop in Sunbury

Dec. 24—SUNBURY — Having an extra day before Christmas seemed like a good excuse for Karen Ann Miller, 74, of Sunbury, to do some last minute shopping at Sunbury Market House, on Saturday morning.

"Oh yes, a nice time to look around and see what's here," she said, while stopping and shopping at Mama G's Bakery for fresh produce. There, she talked about the holiday with Kristin Kohl, who worked the counter.

The Sunbury Market House held its 2nd annual Santa's Secret Shop on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and although the attendance was sparse, that didn't seem to matter to Pearl Reardon, of Sunbury who was immediately drawn to a table filled with Lego pieces. After proudly announcing her age, "I'm four," she resumed her full attention to the toys.

A few minutes later, Leonard Daniels, of Sunbury, also played with the Lego pieces while his mother, Annette Daniels, stood by watching. "I'm here to maybe pick up some stocking stuffers," she said. "And maybe buy some pie for supper." That took her, she said, to Heimbach's Bakery, which offered a wide assoretment of cakes, pies, and sugar cookies.

At the back of the market was a collection of model miniature trains, and Carlos Collier and his friends walked around looking at what was for sale. He wound up not seeing anything he wanted to buy, "but I'll come back here next week to see if maybe I missed something."

As he walked out of the Market, he stopped near the front door and sifted through boxes filled with comics, music CDs, and DVDs for sale. "Looking for a Rolling Stones CD as a gift for a friend," he said. He kept looking through the two boxes of CDs before finally giving up and leaving.

Meanwhile, Miller was still in the market in conversation with Kohl. It was about 1 p.m., her basket filled with items she bought. "It's convenient for me to come here," she said, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas as she left."
