WAYNE — The Shopper’s Find department store will permanently close at Willowbrook Mall on Wednesday.
The store, which opened in June 2021 to replace a Lord & Taylor department store, has been liquidating its merchandise since the beginning of last month. Its everything-must-go sale is offering customers up to 90% off on all items, plus an extra 80% off on their total purchases.
Shopper’s Find has two other locations, in Natick, Massachusetts, and in Northbrook, Illinois, which are also scheduled to shut down.
A fourth location, at Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, closed this past summer. That space remains vacant.
Shopper’s Find sells clothing, footwear, fine jewelry, furniture and home décor. Its store in New England also sold area rugs and mattresses.
The retailer’s co-founders said when their store opened in Wayne that there was room for growth in the market, at the time still reeling from a pandemic hangover. The chain was created through a partnership between Boston-based Gordon Brothers Group and Hilco Global of Northbrook, a suburb of Chicago.
Their approach was to advertise name-brand goods — even designer fragrances and furs — at bargain-basement prices.
And they were transparent about where the inventory came from: It was excess stock and out-of-season products.
Shopper’s Find was among three department stores to anchor the Wayne mall, the fifth-largest retail center in the state and by far the largest in the county.
This month, the mall celebrated the opening of BJ’s Wholesale Club in space once occupied by a Sears department store.
