Shoppers Evacuate Apple Store at Sydney's Bondi Westfield Mall During Attack

People were evacuated from Sydney’s Bondi Junction amid reports of a stabbing at the Westfield mall on Saturday, April 13.

Footage filmed by Sebastian Rodriguez shows crowds of people leaving an Apple Store inside the shopping center, as sirens can be heard from the background.

In a statement sent to Storyful, New South Wales Police said a “critical incident” had commenced “following the shooting of [a] male.”

New South Wales Police Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cook said in a later press conference that a female police inspector shot and killed the armed suspect inside the mall. Five people were confirmed dead and a number of others were injured, including some who were in serious and critical condition in hospital. A “small child” was among the victims, Cook said.

The offender was not immediately identified, but Cook said police believe he acted alone and there was no further threat. Investigators said they were not ruling out a possible terrorist motive. Credit: Sebastian Rodriguez via Storyful
