Shoppers Fill Oxford Street in London Ahead of Tier 4 Lockdown

The British government announced tier four restrictions in several areas of England including London on December 19, with the new limits on movement set to take effect on Sunday.

Speaking at 10 Downing Street, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the restrictions, which include stay-at-home orders, the closing of non-essential businesses, and severe limits on social mixing were required to head off rising coronavirus cases. Johnson also cited what he called a new variant of the virus in the UK, which could spread more easily.
