Shoppers surprised to find tires stolen after trip to SouthPark Mall

A trip to SouthPark Mall ended with a shock for some shoppers.

Jerri Nichols finished up her regular trip to the mall on Wednesday only to find she wouldn’t be going anywhere soon.

“I put (my car) in reverse and I thought I’d hit someone,” Nichols said.

She didn’t hit anything, but there was something missing: the car’s back passenger tire.

“I was in shock,” Nichols said.

She wasn’t alone. Channel 9′s Almiya White found two other police reports from people saying tires were stolen from their cars outside the SouthPark Mall.

“It’s just so sad that people don’t care about what they do,” Nichols said.

A good Samaritan helped Nichols take lug nuts off other tires to put a doughnut on where the missing wheel once was, so she could get home.

Now, Nichols is offering a warning to other drivers so they don’t end up a victim of the same crime.

“I would like to alert people to stop parking underneath and park out in the open,” she said. “I don’t want it to happen again.”
