Shopping, concerts and food will keep you busy this weekend in Newport County

It's time to enjoy the holiday season across Newport County and there are plenty of events taking place to get you into the spirit.

In addition to everything taking place as part of the annual Christmas in Newport celebration (see the full schedule here), there are events throughout Newport County and beyond that will offer the opportunity to shop, socialize and enjoy.

Check out these five events, including one outside of Newport County, that will bring large balloons to the area.

Holiday Art Market

The Sip & Stroll - Holiday Art Market is a contemporary arts and crafts pop-up market featuring queer and queer-supporting locally-based artists, makers and entrepreneurs. Support local artists, and a portion of proceeds will also go to Newport PRIDE, whose mission is building a more welcoming and inclusive LGBTQ+ community in Newport County. More at Newportprideri.org.

The market will take place on Friday, Dec. 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Huddle, 42 Spring St., Newport, and will include small bites, hot cocoa thanks to Empire Coffee, and fun tunes. Following the market, there will be an after-celebration at The Parlor Newport.

Artists will include Reggie Onorati, Emily Haggett from Salve LGBT Center, Caitlin Bailey with Buty As Duty, Nycole Marvelous / Newport Art House, Holly Fisher, and Callie Griffiths (Tarot Reading).

Friends of Tiverton Libraries Mini Book and Bake Sale

The Friends of Tiverton Libraries will hold a mini book and bake sale on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the Tiverton Public Library, 34 Roosevelt Ave.

Stop by and browse our collection of books for all ages, including novels, cookbooks, nonfiction, children's books and more! Most books are priced at $1 or less. Please note that the Friends are not accepting donations of books for this mini-sale, as we are doing inventory reduction at this time.

While shopping for great books, don't forget to purchase some delicious home-baked treats at the bake sale tables. All proceeds of this sale go towards library programs and the purchase of museum and activity passes.
