New ShopRite opens its doors at former Pathmark site in Fair Lawn

A new ShopRite in Fair Lawn opened its doors to the public last Friday at the site of the old Pathmark store, which closed before the pandemic.

Named ShopRite of Maple & Hemlock and located at 22-00 Maple Ave., the new supermarket features a from-scratch bakery, café, Patsy’s Market meat department and wellness department with an in-store registered dietitian.

The 72,000-square-foot store features both traditional and self-checkout lanes and offers online ordering with store pickup options. It will be staffed by 250 workers.

“This new store demonstrates our family’s continued commitment to the community to offer top-tier value, quality and service to our shoppers,” said Lawrence Inserra Jr., chairman and CEO of Inserra Supermarkets, which operates 22 ShopRites across Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties.

The bakery will feature store-made breads, cakes and pastries, and the store will feature the “Bowl & Basket” store brand and “Wholesome Pantry” line.

“We’re really excited in Fair Lawn. We’ve seen a number of businesses grow,” said Mayor Kurt Peluso. “I actually went there shopping two days ago and it was packed, so definitely really needed.”

The property is owned by Oster Fair Lawn Properties LLC, according to public records. Steve Hittman, president of Crossroads Companies, which built the ShopRite, said Oster is seeking tenants for two smaller retail buildings on the property.

Oster did not respond to a voicemail message and email seeking comment on potential tenants, and Peluso said he did not know what other retailers are coming to the site.
