These shops are coming to new retail strip in Wayne where funeral home stood

WAYNE — A cookie shop, a juice bar and a taco stand are among the tenants that will occupy a strip mall quickly taking shape at the intersection of Alps Road and Hamburg Turnpike.

The 10,482-square-foot shopping center, to be called The Yard, is well under construction at the 1.4-acre site, where Moore’s Home for Funerals once stood.

The new strip mall, which will face Hamburg Turnpike, will have a drive-thru lane on the east side and 52 parking spots.

The Planning Board approved the project in November, but it was recently amended to add two more tenants — for a total of seven. The change did not alter the size of the shopping center.

The developer, March Associates Construction Inc., also built The Parke at Hamburg, the local retail plaza anchored by a Trader Joe’s grocery store.

A representative for the developer said The Yard will be fully leased and that it is expected to open in the spring.

Project update

In an article posted to its website, March Associates named six “top-tier” tenants that will rent space at The Yard.

  • Crumbl Cookies: The Utah-based chain known for gourmet cookies has nearly 900 locations in the country, with more in Canada. There are 12 locations in New Jersey.

  • District Taco: Based in Virginia, the chain of Mexican restaurants has 15 locations in three states and in Washington, D.C.

  • European Wax Center: The Texas-based chain of hair-removal salons has just over 1,000 locations across the nation. There are 74 in New Jersey, including one in Wayne.

  • GNC: Based in Pittsburgh, the chain known for diet supplements has more than 2,300 locations in the country. There are 70 locations in New Jersey.

  • néktǝr Juice Bar: Based in California, the chain known for fruit smoothies has 200-plus locations across the nation.

  • OHM Fitness: The chain of health clubs, based in Arizona, has six locations in four states.
