CLASS A SOUTH

No. 2 Southern 60, No. 6 Jackson Memorial 14: The Rams (3-0, 3-0) picked bonus points at 10 weights, recorded seven pins and won 11 of the 14 bouts in their win over the Jaguars (2-1, 2-1).

It is the fourth straight season Southern has defeated Jackson Memorial. The four wins have come by a combined 142 points or 35.5 a match. Jackson Memorial's last win in the series was 28-25 on Dec. 19, 2018.

Returning state fifth-place finisher Cole Velardi (165), Colin French (190), returning state qualifiers Riley O'Boyle (215) and Anthony Evangelista (heavyweight), two-time state top three finisher and 2021 state runner-up Conor Collins (132), returning region champion Wyatt Stout (138) and returning state qualifier Hayden Hochstrasser (144) all recorded pins.

Southern also won by forfeit at 106 and received a technical fall from Nick Bennet (157) and a major decision by Scottie Sari (126). Sari, a returning region qualifier, majored returning state qualifier Jonathan Espinosa 9-1.

Christopher Wolf pinned at 150 in a matchup of backups and returning region fifth-place finisher Luke Hamann (175) and returning state qualifier Jason Seda (113) won by major decision for Jackson Memorial.

NONDIVISIONAL

No. 5 Raritan 69, Ocean 6: The Rockets (2-1) recorded 10 pins and won 13 of the 14 bouts in their win over the Spartans (1-2).

Raritan won the first 11 bouts - nine of which were by pin - as it jumped out to a 54-0 lead.

Nicholas Sheldrick (106), Aidan Davis (113), returning region qualifier Matt Erven (120), returning state qualifiers Zach Reilley (138) and Braden Kmak (144), Logan Acevedo (150), Jack Devaney (157), returning region qualifier Robert Mulligan (165), Kieran Falzon (190) and Tom Jeleniewski (heavyweight) all pinned.

In a bout of note, Raritan sophomore Alex Delaurier (132) defeated Michael Volek 5-4. Both won tournament championships last weekend. Delaurier won the 132-pound title at the Ron Mazzola Memorial Tournament at Old Bridge. Volek came from the No. 5 seed to win the 132-pound title at the Wendy Pandy-Leh Invitational Tournament at Delaware Valley

Michael Poniros (175) pinned for Ocean. He was leading 8-2 when he got reversed and put to his back by Stephen Moser. Moser came close to recording the pin before Poniros reversed Moser and recorded the fall with five seconds remaining.

Barnegat 42, Shore 35: A pin by Aidan O'Halloran in the final bout gave the Bengals (6-0) the win over the Blue Devils (4-1).

FAITH CHRISTIAN (PA,). ACADEMY QUAD MEET

St. Peter's Prep 30, No. 1 CBA 26: Pins by Giovanni Schinina (120) and Max Nevlin (175) sparked the Marauders, ranked No. 5 in the New Jersey Wrestling Writers Association Top 20, to the win over the No. 4 Colts (3-5) and enabled them to avenge a defeat from last season.

Schinina pinned Tyler Venet, last season's Region 6 106-pound champion. Nevlin, a returning state qualifier, pinned returning state qualifier Anthony Lawrence.

CBA's Alex Nini (138) and Julian George (144) both defeated returning state placewinners.

Nini, who was fourth in the state at 120 last year and is a two-time state medal winner, defeated Donovan Chavis 2-0. Chavis was seventh in the state at 120 last year.

George, the state runner-up at 138 last season and a two-time state medal winner, majored Jonathan Fuller 11-2. Fuller was fourth in the state at 132 last year.

Faith Christian Academy (Pa.) 28, No. 1 CBA 21: A three-bout 12-point run from 120-132 gave Faith Christian Academy (Pa.) a match-clinching 28-15 lead with two bouts remaining in their win over the Colts (3-5).

Returning state third-place finisher Zander Silva (157). returning state qualifier Nick Stump (190), Robert Duffy (113), Nini (138) and George (144) won by decision and returning state qualifier Robert Canterino (heavyweight) won by forfeit for CBA.

Middletown North 37, Red Bank Catholic 33: Returning state qualifiers Brady Klinsky (113), Justin Fearon (132), returning region qualifier Matthew Castelli (157) pinned and returning region fifth-place Colin Oden won by major decision as the Lions (3-2) defeated the Caseys (0-2).

Returning state seventh-place finisher Lorenzo Portella (heavyweight), Vincent Muscillo (165), Frank Romeo (175) and returning region qualifier Michael Palmieri (190) all pinned for Red Bank Catholic.

NONCONFERENCE

Long Branch 53 Monsignor Farrell (N.Y.) 21

No. 10 Point Pleasant Boro 44, Jefferson 23: Jared Drews (120) and returning region fifth-place finisher Ryan Acquisto (150) both defeated returning region qualifiers as the Panthers (2-1) defeated the Falcons.

Returning state qualifier Joseph DeAngelo (106), returning region qualifier Jacob Messano (144) and Brett Leschinski (190) pinned and returning state qualifier Frankie Burgio (113) won by technical fall for Point Pleasant Boro.,

Warren Hills 32, No. 5 Raritan 26: Augie Szamreta (106) and returning region qualifier Charlie Piccone (120) won by decision and Davey Rhinehart (113) pinned during a decisive 12-point run from 106-120 that enabled the Blue Streaks, ranked No. 16 in the New Jersey Wrestling Writers Association Top 20, to the win over the Rockets (1-1).

It is the second straight season Warren Hills has defeated Raritan. Warren Hills was the NJSIAA Group 3 runner-up and Raritan the NJSIAA Group 2 champion last season.

A key result came at 144 where Warren Hills' Shawn Redfield (144) edged Braden Kmak 2-1 in a matchup of returning state qualifiers.

Raritan sophomore Alexander DeLaurier (132) began the match with a 3-1 win over returning region sixth-place finisher Josh Lee.

The Rockets' returning state qualifier Ryan Mansueto (126) defeated returning region qualifier Tyler Redfield and Raritan's returning region Robert Mulligan (165) defeated returning district runner-up Cody Miller.

Robbinsville 36, Wall 34: A four-bout, 21 point run from 126-144 gave the Ravens a 36-21 lead with three bouts remaining and they held on for the win over the Crimson Knights.

Wall received a forfeit from returning region champion Donovan DiStefano (150), a major decision by Will Kinsella and a win by Jayden Solano (165) in the last three bouts, but it was not enough.

Colin Roarty (120) had a pin for Wall.

No. 1 Christian Brothers Academy 57, Manalapan 15: Returning state third-place finishers Tyler Barrett (157) and Zander Silva (165) had pins and returning state qualifier Anthony Lawrence (175) and returing region qualifier Peter Grippo also pinned during a 47-point run over the first nine bouts as the Colts (3-3, 2-0) defeated Manalapan (4-1, 1-1).

Returning state qualifier Nick Stump (190) won by technical fall over returning region qualifier Kenny Wines.

No. 4 Howell 43, Freehold Township 31: Howell (1-1, 1-1) won 10 of the first 13 bouts and built a 43-13 lead on its way to the win over the Patriots (0-1, 0-1) as it bounced back from a season-opening defeat to Middletown South.

Thomas Richards (heavyweight) and Mason Hultman (106) opened the match with pins.

Then, after Freehold Township closed to within 12-10, returning state qualifier Xavier Ortega (126) began a three-weight 16-point run a major decision over returning region fifth-place finisher Alexander Grant.

CLASS A CENTRAL

No. 8. Rumson-Fair Haven 67, Holmdel 11: Eamon Fry (106), Andrew Newell (120), returning region qualifier Julian DuQue (126), returning region sixth-place finisher Cole Pangborn (138), returning region qualifiers Evan Ridgway (150) and Nick Costello (157) and Matthew Smith (heavyweight) all pinned for the Bulldogs (2-0, 2-0) in their win over the Hornets (4-2, 0-1).

Rumson's Conor Delaney (190), a returning region sixth-place finisher, defeated John Steele 6-2.

CLASS A SOUTH

Brick 45, Toms River North 28

No. 7 Brick Memorial 54, Toms River South 15: Anthony Santaniello, the 2021 state 120-pound champion and a three-time state finalist, picked up career win No. 100 with a 20-5 technical fall in the Mustangs' (2-0, 2-0) win over Toms River South (1-1, 1-1).

Santaniello is 100-3 in his career. His only defeats came in the 2020 state 106-pound final to Kinnelon's Evan Mougalian, - a defeat he avenged the following year in the state 120-pound final - and to Delbarton's Tyler Vazquez in the 2022 state 132-pound final and the 2021 Beast of the East 132-pound final. Those defeats were by a combined four points.

Brody Elk (144), last season's District 23 144-pound champion, defeated returning region qualifier Ray Gardner 6-3.

Josh James (165) and freshman Trey Tallmadge (175) had pins for Brick Memorial.

No. 6 Jackson Memorial 62, Central 9: Luis Espinosa (120), John Calamia (150), William Kovacs (165), Benjamin Leach (190) and Lucas Stahlnecker as the Jaguars (2-0, 2-0) won 12 of the 14 weights and tuned up for their match Friday at home against No. 2 Southern with the win over the Golden Eagles (0-2, 0-2).

CLASS B NORTH

Colts Neck 49, Manasquan 18: Mykhailo Shvets (144), returning state qualifier Tyler Russ (150) and Nicholas Fischer (157) recorded consecutive pins as the Cougars (4-1, 1-0) extended what was a 10-9 lead after four bouts to 28-9 after seven bouts in their win over Manasquan (0-2, 0-2).

Michael Borao (126), returning region qualifier Amir Shakhnavazov (190) and Alexis Yale (113) also pinned for Colts Neck.

Long Branch 47, Ocean 20: Ryan Beharry (113) and returning region qualifier James Renna (126) highlighted a four-bout, 21-point surge over the first four bouts as the Green Wave (2-0, 2-0) defeated the Spartans (1-1, 1-1) and gave themselves the inside track for the Class B North championship. It was the first time the two rivals have met since 2019 and the seventh straight time Long Branch has defeated Ocean.

Daniel Ramirez (144), returning region qualifier Logan Smith (157), Matheaus Marco Santana (190) and Mark Godsil (heavyweight) also pinned for Long Branch.

Michael Volek (132) pinned , two-time state qualifier James Farina (150) won by technical fall and Michael Poniros (175) recorded a 3-2 win over Tornick Kajaia on a takedown with 11 seconds remaining for Ocean.

CLASS B CENTRAL

CLASS B SOUTH

Lacey 51, Donovan Catholic 21: Tyler French (138), returning region fifth-place finisher Luke Gauthier (144) and Kyle Leonard (150) had consecutive pins as the Lions (4-0, 2-0) defeated the Griffins (1-1, 1-1).

Gautheri pinned returning region qualifier Richard Davis.

Donovan Catholic pulled within 33-21 before a pin by Casey Delvecchio (175) clinched the match for Lacey.

Returning region qualifier Brendan Schuler (106) and Aidan Flynn (113) also pinned for Lacey.

Returning state seventh-place finisher Kurt Wehner (120) and returning region qualifier Riley Gutierrez (165) pinned for Donovan Catholic.

Jackson Liberty 46, Pinelands 22: Returning region fifth-place finisher Anthony Urso (120), Tucker Panzinko 126) and returning district runner-up Peter Albine (132) had consecutive pins to open the match as the Lions (1-0, 1-0) defeated the Wildcats (2-3, 0-1).

Middletown South 48, No. 10 Point Pleasant Boro 24: A win by technical fall by three-time state qualifier David Hussey (165) started a five-bout 26-point run that enabled the Eagles (2-0) to pull away for the win over the Panthers (1-1).

It was Middletown South's second resounding win over a team that was ranked in the Asbury Park Press Preseason Top 10. The Eagles defeated Howell 48-27 in their opening match on Dec. 15.

Middletown South has 13 pins in its first two matches.

Landon Penta (190), Matthew Poandi (215) and Thomas Whyte (heavyweight) concluded the 26-point run with pins.

After returning state qualifier Frankie Burgio (113) opened the match with a pin for Point Pleasant Boro, Hudson Bernabeo (120), Declan Connolly (126) and two-time state fourth-place finisher and three-time state top five finisher Jack Zaleski (132) had consecutive pins.

Returning state qualifiers Jack Thompson (157) and Joseph DeAngelo (106) also pinned for Point Boro.

Point Beach 43, Hightstown 33: Chris Napolitano pinned in the 132-pound bout to give the Garnet Gulls (1-1) a 38-33 lead over the Rams in the next-to-last bout and then Aidan Loughran (138) clinched the win with a technical fall in the final bout.
