St. John Vianney 35, Kingsway 33: It was a big day for the Lancers as they defeated three teams ranked in the New Jersey Wrestling Writers Association Top 20, culminated by the win over No. 5 Kingsway.

Senior and three-time state qualifier Nico Diaz had wins in the final bout to clinch both the North Hunterdon and Kingsway matches at 132 and 138 respectively.

Freshman 106-pounder Patrick O'Keefe defeated two top five finishers in the state at 106 last year. He defeated North Hunterdon's Logan Wadle, the returning runner-up at 106, 5-3, and Livingston's returning fifth-place finisher Aidan Carmody 3-1.

NONCONFERENCE

Southern 40, South Plainfield 23

A 24-point run up top from 175-heavyweight that began with pins by Tyler Chase (175), Colin French (190) and Riley O'Boyle (215) broke a 10-10 tie after five bouts and sent the Rams on their way to the win over the Tigers.

The featured bout of the match saw Southern's Conor Collins, the state runner-up at 113 last year, ride out 2019 state qualifier Jacob DelVecchio in the third oeriod for a 1-0 win.

It was the second straight season Collins had defeated DelVecchio. He defeated him 4-2 last season during the dual-meet between the two teams.

Collins' win made it 37-20 with two bouts remaining and clinched the match.

Southern freshman Wyatt Stout (126) remained unbeaten with a 10-6 win over two-time region qualifier Julian Irizarry.

Cole Velardi (157), a 2020 state qualifier, also pinned for the Rams.

South Plainfield won the match's other featured bout as J.J. Giordano (144), a returning region fifth-place finisher, defeated returning state qualifier Matt Henrich 3-1 on three back points in the second period.

Delsea 37, Howell 21: A 3-0 decision by two-time state placewinner Jared Schoppe over returning state qualifier D.J. Henry at 175 pounds, started a five-bout, 19-point run that enabled the Crusaders to clinch the win over Howell.

Delsea had grabbed an early 18-3 lead on a four-bout, 18-point run from 132-150.

Howell pulled within 18-12 on a win by Nick Acque (157) and a pin by returning state champion Hunter Mays (165).

THIRD-PLACE MATCH

Warren Hills 39, Howell 22: The Blue Streaks won eight of nine bouts and went on a 36-6 run from 144-106 to build a 39-10 lead on their way to the win over Howell.

Owen Frizzel (175) and 2020 region fifth-place finisher, returning state eighth-place finisher Jarrett Pantuso (215) had pins during the decisive run.

Howell freshman Xavier Ortega (113) and sophomore and returning state fifth-place finisher had wins over returning region qualifier Kevin Riedinger and 2020 region fifth-place finisher Jared Lee respectively.

Raritan took control early with a a four-bout, 16-point run from 144-165. Returning region qualifier Zach Reilly (144) began the run with a 9-3 over 2019 Region VII sixth-place finisher and three-time region qualifier Jake Hastings.

Alex Auletta (150 and Quinn Peters (157) followed Reilly with a pin and major decision respectively.

St. Peter's Prep 54, Raritan 18: Pins by 2020 state qualifier Felix Lettini (144), Maxwell Nevlin (150) and 2020 region sixth-place finisher Roger Diaz (157) in the first three bouts sent the Marauders on their way to the win over the Rockets.

Lacey 40, Rumson-Fair Haven 36: A pin in 51 seconds in the final bout by 2020 region qualifier Mason Heck at 138 pounds capped a 16-point run over the final three bouts as the Lions rallied to defeat the Bulldogs.

A pin by Aidan Ott (126) and a major decision by Matt Gauthier (132) preceded Heck's pin and pulled Lacey within 36-34.

Rumson-Fair Haven had grabbed a 36-24 lead on decisions by Walker Skove (106) and Alexander West (113) and a pin by returning region qualifier Julian Duque (120).

Freehold 41, Wall 30: The Colonials clinched a tie for what is believed to first-ever divisional wrestling championship with the win over the Crimson Knights.

Freehold can clinch the outright divisional title with a win over Colts Neck on Feb. 2. A Colts Neck win would create a three-way tie with Freehold, Colts Neck and Wall.

The Colonials took the lead for good at 120-18 after seven bouts with an 11-2 major decision by Joseph Berryman at 157. Brandon Smith (165) followed with a pin in 27 seconds.

Then, after Wall closed to within 26-24, A pin in 52 seconds by Andrew Reiff (190), an 8-4 decision by senior Alberton Pantoja (215) over 2020 region qualifier Louis Pilla highlighted a three-bout, 5-point match-deciding run.

Manalapan 33, Long Branch 29: A pin by two-time region qualifier Vincent DePierro (138) in the final bout gave Manalapan the win over the Green Wave and capped a rally from a 29-4 deficit over the final six bouts.

Two-time region qualifier Anthony Vitola (120 and Anthony Mucciolo (132) also had pins and Advait Sepuri had a technical fall during the winning run.

Pins by two-time region qualifier Angel Bonnano (150) and Luke Tracey (215) helped Long Branch build its lead.

The Rams won the first seven bouts to build a 35-0 lead as they defeated the Jaguars for the third straight season and took another major step toward clinching the Class A South championship for the second straight season.

When Southern officially clinches the divisional title, it will be its 12th overall and the first time it has won divisional titles in two straight seasons since 1998 and 1999.

Conor Collins (120), last year's state runner-up at 113, returning state qualifier Matt Henrich (138) and 2020 state qualifier Cole Velardi pinned during the early run.

Lacey 49, Point Boro 24: Lacey all but clinched the Shore Conference Class B South championship for the second straight season with an overpowering display against Point Pleasant Boro.

It will be the first time the Lions have won consecutive divisional titles in their history and just the fourth divisional championship in program history.

Lacey took command right away by winning the first five bouts, three of them by pin, as it grabbed a 25-0 lead.

A key pin came in the second bout at 175 pounds as junior Luciano Ferranti was inserted and he pinned Sean Ennas in 54 seconds.

The insertion enabled Lacey, which won the pre-match flip, to bump the rest of its upperweights.

Returning region qualifiers James Circle and Matt Coon went up to 190 and 215 and John Dodaro moved to heavyweight. Circle won by major decision. Coon pinned off a cradle and Dodaro pinned off a throw at the end of the first period.

Point Boro did not score a takedown or reversal until the sixth bout.

Then, after Point Boro closed to within 25-12, sophomore Jordan Lavalle, who was 1-3 entering the night, helped make up for the absence of 2019 state qualifier Brady Carter , with a pin.

The Lavalle pin started a five-bout, 24-point run that increased the Lacey lead to 49-12 with two bouts remaining. Aidan Ott (126) erased an early 4-0 deficit to record an 11-5 decision and sophomore Matt Gauthier (132) clinched the match with four bouts left with a pin off a cradle.
