Short-handed city council approves payment for sewer project

FAIRBURY — A quorum was barely met as only four members of the Fairbury City Council participated in Wednesday’s regular meeting. Combined with a light agenda, the gathering resulted in an unusually short meeting.

Including Mayor David Slagel, there were four council members were physically present at city hall as the mayor was joined by new Alderman James Tipton, Alderman Charles Hoselton and Alderman Jon Kinate in attending in person at city council chambers. Alderman Jerry Hoffman was also considered in attendance after it was approved that he could take part remotely via telephone.

Those aldermen absent included Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Bruce Weber and Bill Schmidgall.

The city council approved the consent agenda, which included Jan. 5 meeting minutes, voucher invoice register listing the bills, treasurer’s cash report, check register and overtime report.

Council members authorized the second of three payments to Iroquois Paving Corporation in the amount of $59,083.78 for the First to Fourth street sanitary sewer extension project in the alley behind the Post Office.

A new business item to consider acoustic panel bids in the council chambers was tabled until more information and more aldermen were available.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Fairbury City Council will be Feb. 2.
