For the second time in four days, the shopping experience at a South Florida Walmart included the sound of gunshots. Unlike Saturday morning in West Miami-Dade, nobody was hurt Wednesday evening in Fort Lauderdale, police said.
Wednesday’s shots, Fort Lauderdale PD Sgt. DeAnna Greenlaw said, were fired into the air as a distraction. The fuss created by the gunshots allowed the robbery team of two to escape in a silver or grey 4-door sedan.
Greenlaw said a Walmart manager ferrying cash from the liquor store to the main part of the Supercenter on 2400 Broward Blvd., suddenly got plowed over by a man. The criminal grabbed the money bag before being tackled by two security guards that CBS4 video showed to be from Brosnan Security.
The Walmart manager recovered the money bag while the security guards dealt with the would-be robber. With his partner in crime in peril, the driver, Greenlaw said, “exited the vehicle and fired several rounds in the air.”
There were no injuries from the shooting.
Saturday, Matthew Brown, 36, was shot to death after an argument inside another Walmart, at 8400 Coral Way in Westchester.
