Put on those KC Heart t-shirts, it’s time for 816 Day.

Get up and get out there to celebrate Kansas City this weekend and on August 16 — the date mirroring Kansas City’s area code. Live performances, food specials, gatherings and more are part of the festivities and you won’t want to miss them.

Here are a few events of the events happening around the city:

18TH AND VINE

The party starts early in the Jazz district. Since Aug. 16 is a Tuesday, they’re hosting part of their celebration on Sunday. Around 100 vendors will be on the block, ranging from fashion to food.

Select restaurants like Soiree Steak & Oyster House and The Juke House will have specials for $8.16.

CITY MARKET

Art in the Loop and Art Garden KC are partnering to bring the party to the City Market. The fun will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with performances by:

  • The Black Creatures: A musical duo whose inspirations range from Robert Glasper to Da Brat.

  • Circus Scorpius: A dynamic display of breathtaking physical acrobatics.

  • Kyle Jones: A jazz saxophonist concerned with righting social injustices through music.

SCAVENGER HUNT

It’s not too late to join in on the hunt. From now until Aug. 16, you can fill out this bingo card by visiting the places listed in the Crossroads and Downtown districts. Fill the spaces in a specific way and you could win prizes in a raffle.

  • If you fill in all the squares, you could win one voucher for four Field Club tickets to a future 2022 KC Current Soccer Match

  • If you fill out the perimeter squares, you could receive two $100 gift cards to select downtown establishments.

  • If you fill in a row — either horizontally, vertically or diagonally — you could be drawn to win one of eight $50 gift cards to select downtown establishments.

JOHN’S BIG DECK

The downtown bar is hosting trivia with Intelligence Check Trivia. The theme for 816 Day’s trivia will be centered around Kansas City and everything good about it. If you think you know the city better than everyone else, sign up here.

WHEN DID IT START?

The first official 816 Day was in 2018 when then-mayor Sly James signed Resolution 180592 to celebrate the newest holiday. The connections between the city and its people are strengthened by local businesses and the pride residents have for Kansas City.
